Make sure that the Software Update Manager is downloaded and available on your SAP NetWeaver AS Java. The SUM is part of the Software Logistics Toolset delivery and available for download from SAP Software Download Center Support Packages and Patches A - Z Index S SL TOOLSET SL TOOLSET 1.0 Entry by Component SOFTWARE UPDATE MANAGER (SUM). SAP recently released Software Provisioning Manager (SWPM) SP20 which now runs in the web browser. This is part of SAP’s effort to convert its products to a FIori-like experience. Other SAP tools that has already adopted the Fiori experience are the Software Update Manager (SUM), Database Migration Option (DMO) and Software Update Manager.

SAP Software Provisioning Manager (SWPM) SP20 can still be started in GUI mode. Simply by executing the SWPM in command prompt with the following parameter.

Unix/Linux: # ./sapinst SAPINST_SLP_MODE=false

Windows: cmd> sapinst.exe SAPINST_SLP_MODE=false

  2. Stop the Software Update Manager back-end process. To do this, in the GUI menu bar choose Update - Stop Update. If required, shut down the SUM GUI as well. Start the Software Update Manager back-end process and GUI again. NOTE: After you have started the SUM GUI, do not choose Next. Reset the SUM update.
  3. In the past SAP developed the tool and named it CAR. The extensions of all compressed files were named '.CAR' as well. In SAP release 4.6C SAP decided to enhance the functionality of the CAR utility a bit. Therefore, the internal structure of the compressed files slightly changed. Because of this, it was necessary to create a new extension.
  4. For UNIX: SAPCAR –xf //.SAR -R /usr/sap/. This command creates the directory SUM under the /usr/sap/ directory. You can also specify a directory other than /usr/sap/. In the following, the directory //SUM is referred to.

HOW TO LAUNCH/STARTSUM:

In new SUM tool ,port has been changed from 4239 to1129 (https)& 1128(http) and It has been intregrated with SAP Host agent.

Please follow below steps for laucnching SUM in14,15,16,17 Patch.

Step 1 : We need to register SAP Host agent with SUM

cd/usr/sap/<SID>/SUM

./STARTUPconfighostagent <SID>

Step 2: Restart the SAP Host Agent using the followingcommands:

cd/usr/sap/<SID>/SUM

<HOSTAGENT directory>/exe/saphostexec-restart
